EFKON South African group company Tollink has been awarded a contract to supply, install and maintain toll system equipment and software along the N2 North Route. The contract is valued several million Euros and includes the replacement of equipment on the 60 existing lanes, plus extension into additional lanes.

The project has been awarded under the CTROM ("Compehensive Toll Road Operations and Maintenance") specification issued by SANRAL, the South African National Roads Agency. The lenght of the route is approximately 138km, covered by 3 mainline toll plazas and 5 ramp plazas. An additional 9 lanes ramp plaza is under construction and will be opened in Q1 2010. It is further projected that the Tongaat mainline and local ramps plaza will be expanded in 2012. The project also includes preparing implementation of Electronic Toll Collection (ETC), including the creation of dedicated ETC lanes. The maintenance period extends to 8 years in total. EFKON/Tollink will install their toll collection and toll management system which has already been implemented on several routes in South Africa, as well as internationally in Mozambique, Ireland; India, Pakistan, Germany; and further countries in Asia and South America, totalling more than 1100 lanes so far. Ltd. is a South African based toll specialist company, wholy owned by EFKON AG, employing professionals in the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) and Electronics and Traffic Transport Engineering (ETTM) disciplines. In addition to the systems integration and consulting engineering services offered by Tollink in various aspects of the toll plaza environment, the company also offers support services on software and hardware systems for its various projects world-wide.
