Both EFKON Group companies, Tollink Ltd. (South Africa) and The Intolligent (Ireland) play an important role in one of the flagship projects for the Transport 21 plan in Ireland. Tollink and The Intolligent have been awarded from Direct Route Ltd. for the design, development, installation, commission and operation of toll projects. The contract value for toll projects is worth approximately 40 million Euros.
Graz, Austria, 11 March 2010 The largest project to be undertaken outside of the Dublin Area since the late 1920s, the Limerick Tunnel scheme is one of the Governments flagship projects for the Transport 21 plan. Phase two of the South Ring Road project, the tunnel itself will link the N7 Limerick-Dublin and N18 Limerick-Ennis routes and can remove up to 40,000 vehicles per day from Limerick City Centre. Work commenced on Stage Two of the € 660 million project in August 2006 and is scheduled for completion in September 2010. The project consists of the construction of approx. 10 km of dual carriageway and includes the Limerick tunnel under the River Shannon Southwest of the city of Limerick.
EFKON Group, an internationally active hight-tech company located in Graz, Austria, and a subsidiary of the construction group STRABAG SE, was the best bidder in an international public tender and wins contracts worth € 40 million. Following on from the success of the Fermoy Operation (see below) EFKON Irish Group Company The Intolligent, will commission, build and operate two Toll Collection locations, one ten lane and one six lane plaza. Both plazas will be manned and it is estimated that the two plazas will handle the traffic and employ up to 60 people. For a swift traffic transaction, EFKON will use the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) technology for this project. Start of operations at the plazas is planned for June 2010. The Intelligent Traffic Management Systems (ITS) will be designed, developed and installed by the EFKON South African Group Company Tollink Ltd. and includes Incident Detection, Over-height Vehicle Detection and Guidance, Variable Message Signage Portal Control Function and Lane Control Function, to name but a few.
About The Intolligent – Successful Toll Operations in Ireland
The Intolligent Ltd commenced operations in Ireland on 2 October 2006. The Intolligent Ltd operates the toll plazas on the Fermoy bypass in Cork on behalf of Direct Route (Fermoy) Ltd. Direct Route (Fermoy) Ltd is responsible for the financing, design, construction, operation and maintenance of the Fermoy bypass for the 30 year period of the contract. Direct Route completed the Fermoy bypass on October 2006 in partnership with the NRA. The project was delivered on budget eight months ahead of schedule. Toll Operations have been sub contracted to The Intolligent Ltd. a 100% subsidiary of EFKON AG. This involves the day to day running and maintenance of the toll plaza, the recruitment and retention of staff, and all reporting and feedback that goes with the management of the business.
