Dr. Helmut Rieder is a 1983 graduate of medicine from the Karl Franzens University, in Graz, Austria, an acknowledged European centre of excellence. His career includes nearly one decade as a practicing physician (Casualty/Emergency Surgery with focus on microsurgery and Orthopaedics with focus on hip prosthetics). He attained a high reputation as a specialist in Casualty/Emergency medicine (Rescue Helicopter and Racing Sports such as Formula One) and especially for microsurgery such as sewing on of mutilated fingers and hands under the microscope.
From 1989 till 1994 Dr. Rieder built up an international trading company with focus on safety and security in the transport and oil industry.
In 1994 the business was expanded to include research, development and system integration for high technology electronic products with a key focus on e-Payment in the ITS industry (Intelligent Transportation Systems). Together with Dr. Raimund Pammer, a specialist in Research and Development for space technology products , Dr. Rieder founded EFKON Ges.m.b.H (- translated: Development, Research, and Construction Ltd).
After great market success within a short time (from 1997 EFKON replaced all Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Electronic Toll Collection System in Malaysia) Dr Rieder structured the first successful capital increase, achieved via the leading Austrian Venture Capitalist "GEP" during 2000.
