OBU's and Other Means of Payment

EFKON provides numerous options for patrons to access electronic toll payment. In most cases, a small box (the “On Board Unit” – OBU) is placed in the windscreen of the vehicle to allow passing at high speed.

Similar in logic and operation, smart cards are an important alternative. Patrons are required to stop, but the low cost smart card is most effective if fast penetration of electronic payment is a key operational target.

For autonomous devices, there is no visible toll facility. Instead, there are other means included in order to connect to a back-end system and to effect payment.

  • OBUs accepting contacted smart cards (ISO7816)
  • OBUs accepting contactless smart cards (ISO14443 A/A-Mifare/B)
  • OBUs accepting dual interface smart cards (ISO7816 and ISO14443)
  • OBUs integrated in vehicle electronics or GPS/GSM
  • OBUs designed for project specific purpose
  • IrDA Interface on cell phones
  • Near Field RF (IS14443-A) on cell phones
  • Smart Card (Contact)
  • Smart Card (Contactless)
  • Smart Card (Dual Interface)
  • Credit Card
  • Debit Card (PIN)
