Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL) is the second largest oil marketing company in India and is a Government of India Undertaking. HPCL runs 4500 retail outlets in across India. 3 years back HPCL embarked on a program to roll out smart card based retail and fleet loyalty products using e-payments. ICICI Bank, India's second largest bank was chosen to do cash management, sales and banking operations for the project. HPCL & ICICI Bank chose EFKON PAYMENT as the technology provider for the project. The project includes three different programs, one targeted at retail customers (HP Smart1) and one targeted at fleet owners (Drive Track) and third is credit fleet card integrated into the credit management host of ICICI Bank (Drive Smart).

Multi Modal Payment

In 1997, UEM as the largest toll road concessionaire in Malaysia began to implement the "Touch'n Go" contactless smart card scheme, an ambitious plan to provide a nationwide solution for multi-application transportation payments. A multiapplication clearing house was set up by Rangkaian Segar, who is also the issuer and operator of the smart card system.

The non stop payment system using active Infrared technology is supplied by EFKON. The in-vehicle units read the card at highway speeds and perform the same smart card transaction in real time. The range of operation can be extended to 100 meters (300 feet) via an infrared communication link.
