History

Founded in 1994, EFKON was established with a bold vision: to revolutionize transportation technology through innovative research and development.

From its inception, EFKON concentrated on creating advanced infrared and Dedicated Short-Range Communication (DSRC) components, setting the stage for innovation in the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) sector.

With a commitment to excellence, EFKON quickly established itself as a leading global provider of ITS and electronic toll solutions. The company expanded rapidly, establishing offices and operations across multiple continents, solidifying its reputation as a pioneer in the industry.

In 2008, EFKON was acquired by STRABAG, a major European technology group specializing in infrastructure services. This acquisition not only bolstered EFKON’s capabilities but also aligned it with a parent possessing over 80,000 employees and a strong global presence, ensuring long-term stability and growth.

Today, EFKON stands as a global leader in transportation solutions, recognized for its innovative contributions to free-flow tolling, toll enforcement, SmartCity initiatives, SmartTunnel systems and Highway Traffic Management Systems. With numerous successful projects worldwide, EFKON continues to drive advancements in transportation technology, shaping the future of mobility.
